about

These tracks share a common lineage as my "Colonization of Desolation" album but go in another direction.

Exploring the drone and shimmer- side of music was immensely rewarding. Incorporating these techniques into songs about nature was doubly so.

The album is meant to be listened to in serial form. It starts with the "First Light" of dawn. "Mutagen" keeps the theme of the predecessor album, then goes right into "Pine Shore Morning." Midday in the album is also midway in the album with "Blur Meadows" evoking a sunny meadow feel. Rain falls in the afternoon of the album with "Petrichor," the smell of rain, then "Forest Rain" immediately following.

Night is for the last two with "Pine Forest Borealis" and "Bees Sleeping in Flowers." "Pine Forest Borealis" Is accented by my recordings of owls and crows. Then, "Bees Sleeping in Flowers." The end of a beautiful day.

"Mutagen" is the only hint at radiation of any kind in the album. Why? Nature always wins. Always. Whether you call it neutralization or naturalization, nature would normalize radiation and we would be foreigners even more than we are now.

Lars Lentz, 2019

"We radiated everything in nature to the point where we were the foreign bodies walking in a kind of beautiful exclusion zone. The radiation in our environment became 'naturalized' and we were the outsiders."
― C. F. Wright, The Founding

“When you want to know how things really work, study them when they're coming apart.”
― William Gibson, Zero History
